A SCHOOL has called upon a Teesside musician to help create their very own song.
Cattle and Cane signer Joe Hammill helped pupils at St Patricks Primary School in Thornaby, near Stockton, to compose the song Child of God, as part of their fundraising for Catholic aid agency CAFOD.
As well as the song writing, pupils were invited to bring in a silver coin to decorate fish marked on the playground floor, raising £238.
Other activities took place during the day included writing letters of support to people in Zambia.
All proceeds from the fundraising event went to CAFOD’s Lent appeal.
Mr Hammill, lead signer of the Thornaby-based family group, said: “I wanted it to be a song that pupils of all ages through the school would be able to learn and understand.
"We kept the words and music very simple, almost lullaby-esque," he aded.
James Conwell, deputy headteacher at St Patricks, said: “We always look forward to our CAFOD fundraising days during Lent – it makes our giving real and helps the children think about real people that need our prayers.
“Writing the song and seeing our silver fish grow in the playground also made it fun," he added.
