It is understood about 60 people were involved in the bust-up which took place ten minutes before the end of Shildon FC’s home game against North Shields FC.
Police received a number of calls at about 4.40pm on Saturday and 14 officers were sent to the Dean Street ground.
A Shildon fan, who wished to remain anonymous, said the brawl started with “one on one” before scores of fans “joined in”.
