A COMMUNITY centre is undergoing renovations to brings its facilities up to scratch.
The work is being done at the Shakespeare Hall, in North Road, Durham.
Durham Community Association, which looks after the building, got funding for new toilets and a new floor for the large hall.
Durham councillors Grenville Holland, David Freeman and Richard Ormerod gave £7,500 from their neighbourhood budgets for the new toilets, which is being completed thanks to £3,250 from the Shakespeare Hall trustees.
Meanwhile the County Durham Community Foundation donated £1,500 to allow the floor of the large hall to be replaced over the Easter period.
Honorary secretary David Lindley said: “The work is currently ongoing. It’s been quite a big job.
“It was in desperate need of being done. We’ve had to do a lot of work.
“We would like to say thanks to the councillors and trustees and the County Durham Community Foundation for their help.”
Work on the toilets should be completed this week.
The hall hosts activities including dances, Tai Chi, and quilting as well as fitness groups, jugglers, a group for deaf people and the Durham Group SDA Church.
It is available for other groups. Anyone interested should call 0191 3842728 for further details.
