A MAN was taken to hospital after the car he was driving was involved in a head-on collision in Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday morning.

Four police vehicles, an ambulance and a rapid response car attended the scene on Horndale Avenue just after 7.10am.

The collision included a Citroen C4 and a Nissan Micra and partially blocked the road.

A police spokesperson said: "The driver of the Micra was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

"The driver of the Citroen also suffered minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

"The vehicles were recovered shortly after the incident and the road was clear by 8am."
