A WOMAN who rescued a stray from Romania is hosting a doggy tea party to raise money for the charity which helped unite them.

Melanie Eve, from High Pittington, near Durham city, is hosting the afternoon tea in aid of Bid to Save a Stray.

The charity raises money to rescue dogs from Romania and find them new homes in Romania, Germany and the UK.

Ms Eve has had her dog Mindy since May.

She said: "I decided I would get a dog that really needed help and this is a very responsible charity that takes proper care of them.

"They were there to make sure its a good match and that she integrated into the family."

She added: "Mindy was terrified of people at first but she's quietened down now and she's a super dog."

The tea party and dog walk takes place at St John's Methodist Church, in High Pittington, on Saturday, March 11 between 2pm and 4pm. Afternoon teas cost £3 and all the proceeds will go to the charity.
