AN organisation has handed out more than £9,000 to local charities.
The money was raised through last year’s Durham City Swimathon, organised by The Rotary Club of Durham.
During the event at Freeman’s Quay, in Durham, 150 people from 12 local organisations to raise money for their own causes as well as nominated charities The Cheesy Waffles Youth Project, Down Syndrome North East and Veterans at Ease.
Durham Rotary president Pauline Crow said: “We are delighted that the 2016 event has proved such a record-breaking success and congratulations to all those who took part.
“The Durham City Swimathon is now in its ninth year, and has so far raised over £60,000 to aid local charities working in our community.”
The tenth annual swimathon will take place in November.
