A CHARITY is appealing for volunteer drivers to help ensure people with dementia can be taken to and from a day centre.

Cleveland Alzheimers Residential Centre, also known as Clevearc, provides day care to around a dozen people per day.

They are taken to a day centre in Guisborough where they enjoy a sociable day out with hot meals and activities.

Malcolm Himsworth, who co-ordinates transport for Clevearc, said: “We are looking for people willing to work a few hours each week, picking people up from their homes, taking them to the day centre and returning them at the end of the day.

“The minibus is very easy to drive. All people need is a clean driving licence and to have a criminal records check, known as a DBS, which we pay for. We also pay expenses.”

The centre provides free transport to and from the centre from all over East Cleveland including Guisborough, Saltburn, Redcar, Skelton, Nunthorpe, Teesville, Eston and Normanby.

People who are interested in becoming volunteer drivers can contact Mr Himsworth on 01642-611110.
