TWO men have been arrested after a 20-year-old was left with “extensive injuries” during an incident in West Auckland.

Police confirmed the man sustained “serious injuries” during a collision shortly before 7pm, on Tuesday.

The victim, of West Auckland, was rushed to James Cook Hospital University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he has been placed in an induced coma and remains in a critical but stable condition.

Detective Sergeant, Peter Lonsdale, of Bishop Auckland CID, confirmed two men had been arrested but not charged and enquiries were still ongoing.

A silver Ford Transit van which was involved in the incident was also recovered the same night in Bishop Auckland.

DS Peter Lonsdale, investigating, said: "This was a very shocking incident for the victim who is suffered extremely serious injuries but due to medical treatment is in a stable condition. We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident and are asking them to contact us as soon as possible”
