A MAN armed himself with a hammer before threatening staff at a supermarket.
The incident happened in Chapel House, Newcastle.
"At 7.35pm on Thursday, February 23, a man entered the Sainsburys store in Chapel House Drive," said a Northumbria Police spokeswoman.
"He was armed with a hammer and threatened the staff member before making off with an amount of cash from the till.
"He left the area in a black Ford Focus.
"The offender was of large build and was wearing a beanie hat, a blue Adidas jacket and tracksuit bottoms."
A 43-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.
- Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone who was in the area on Thursday evening and who saw anything is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 914 23/02/17.
