A DISABLED woman’s County Durham home was burgled while she lay asleep in her bed at the weekend.

The intruder or intruders entered the woman’s bungalow, just off Lowther Road on the Woodhouse Close Estate in Bishop Auckland, sometime between 5pm and 7.30pm on Sunday (February 19) evening.

Police believe that once inside the property the thieves headed for the victim’s bedroom where she was sleeping and searched through her bedside cabinet.

It is understood they then removed a set of keys from inside the cabinet, which included those for her Renault Scenic motor car that was parked outside the house.

Fortunately, the vehicle was not taken and steps have been taken to ensure the car is secure.

However, the woman’s mobile phone was also stolen.

Durham Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone with information about the burglary to come forward.

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area around the time of the burglary is asked to contact the investigating officer PC Paul Canvin via the force’s non-emergency number 101.

Members of the public can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
