AN investigation is underway after thieves smashed their way into a family-run garage on Monday morning.
Intruders broke into Weardale Motor Services’ office in Stanhope, County Durham, at 2am and left a trail of destruction in their wake.
The burglary has shocked the Gibson family, who run the independent coach hire firm, bus service and petrol station.
Ian Gibson said: “It’s been years and years since anything like this has happened so it came as a bit of a shock. If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious we would be so grateful if they could contact us or the police.”
As well as the damage to the door, the burglary also prevented Mr Gibson from opening up until 1.30pm, meaning a loss of revenue. He has apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused.
