THE imaginative tale of a nine-year-old boy who embarks on a stuffed-animal adventure after adopting a snow leopard is being brought to Darlington.

Sammy and the Snow Leopard was piloted during a tour in 2015 after New Zealand actor, director and writer, Brad McCormick penned the play for animal-loving youngsters.

Darlington Civic Theatre will present the interactive Travelling Light production in the town’s Crown Street Art Gallery, in the Crown Street Library, Darlington, next month.

During the performances, the audience will be invited to join in with telling the story by making sound effects and playing three different roles by reading lines from cards help up by an actor.

Director, Craig Edwards, said: “Sammy and the Snow Leopard has all the elements of a great story – a child hero who has big ideas, his side-kick who is loyal and funny, a really nasty bad guy who lives just round the corner, a gullible mum and a really big snow leopard.

“Added to that, there is only one actor in this show and he gets to play all the characters – except for Mum, which the audience plays, and the doorbell, and Mr Kruger, and the Snow Leopard, but that’s it.”

Tickets for Sammy and the Snow Leopard are £5 and performances will begin on Saturday, March 11, at 2pm, with a further show that afternoon at 4pm.

The play will return to the Crown Street Art Gallery on Monday, March 13, at 10.30am and 1.30pm.
