A HOUSING group’s plans to build two bungalows in a Weardale village have been given the green light.
County Durham Housing Group will build the two bedroom properties on land at Boltsburn Crescent in Rookhope, after receiving planning permission this month.
Work is underway to appoint a building contractor for the scheme to start on site during the spring, with a target completion date of early next year.
Weardale Councillor John Shuttleworth spoke in favour of the plans when they were submitted in November.
He said: “It will provide much-needed homes for elderly people who want to downsize but remain in the village. This will then free up larger three-bedroom homes for young families and allow them to stay in Weardale.”
Kate Abson, a senior manager at County Durham Housing Group, said: “We’re delighted that this scheme has been given the go ahead as it will enable us to develop much needed accommodation in one of the most rural areas of the county.
“This is one of many new build projects we have in development as we aim to provide homes for a range of household needs.”
