A KIND-HEARTED schoolgirl donated her long locks to charity to help children suffering from cancer.
Ferryhill Station Primary School student, Alesha Wiffen, braved the scissors in front of her fellow pupils today.
Her mother, Louise McCafferty, said she “couldn’t be prouder” of the nine-year-old who was inspired after watching Children in Need where a little girl suffering from cancer had been given a wig from the charity.
“She said that she wanted to donate her hair so I looked into it for her. I couldn’t believe it, she has always had long hair ever since she was at nursery,” she said.
“She has been counting down the days and has been telling us to say ‘goodbye’ to her hair.”
The family, of Ferryhill, have also smashed their £100 target by raising £247 in sponsorship.
Alesha said: “I was nervous this morning but I’m pleased I did it and now my hair will make a wig for somebody else.”
