MYSTERY surrounds the theft of a dog that is now believed to be in Hertfordshire.
Tobias, a Chihuahua, went missing from his home in Chichester on August 6 and nothing had been heard about him until last Friday (December 19) when his owner received an odd call from a woman in Hertfordshire.
She said that her daughter had bought Tobias for £700 and had taken him to be micro-chipped at a veterinary surgery in a town called Ware.
They discovered that "Billy", as he had been called, was in fact Tobias. At this point, the woman said that the owner would have to speak to her daughter and hung up.
Police are now appealing for anyone who recognises Tobias/Billy to get in touch.
He is black-and-white, long haired with a quite unusual white-tipped, black tail. He has large fluffy ears, tan-colour eyebrows and the same colour blusher cheeks.
The woman, who was accompanied to the vet by a boy in his early teens, said she bought the dog in the New Forest, Hampshire.
