A SELF help support group for people with lung conditions is open to new members.

Breathe Easy Durham Dales, which works with the British Lung Foundation, provides information, support, friendship, social events, days out and activities for people with lung problems and their carers or loved ones.

It meets at Bishop Auckland Methodist Church, Cockton Hill Road, Bishop Auckland, on the first Thursday of each month at 2pm.

A community respiratory exercise group meets at Woodhouse Close Church Hall, Bishop Auckland, every Tuesday at 2pm.

Last month, Breathe East Durham Dales marked World COPD Awareness Day at Bishop Auckland Methodist Church with a talk by chairman Harry Brown.

He said people need to be aware of the present-day escalation in lung disease and what support is available.

His talk was followed by a concert featuring Bishop Auckland Sound Waves Community Choir, Darlington Vocal Soul Community Choir and music director Steve McGarvie.

The event raised £710 to be shared by the British Lung Foundation and local respiration nursing groups.

Anyone interested in the group can drop into a meeting or contact Mr Brown for more information on 01388-773652.
