A MUDDY runner and a baby giggling at just eight days' old have won October's Winning Smile as voting opens to find the competition's overall winner.

The contest, to celebrate Darlington Building Society's 160th anniversary, invited readers to submit their smiley pictures to be in with a chance of winning monthly prizes of a £50 Marks and Spencer voucher or £25 iTunes vouchers.

The winners from each month, from May to October, are now being put forward to win the overall prize of a digital SLR camera.

When Darlington Building Society rebranded at the start of its landmark year, a smile was incorporated into its new logo, so a photo competition seemed the perfect way to join forces with The Northern Echo and capture the theme of smiling.

October's winners are announced today – and the winner of the adult category is Rob Colgrave, 28, from Darlington, who was snapped with a muddy grin after completing the Muddy Mayhem run at Hardwick Park in Sedgefield, in aid of Beating Bowel Cancer, last month. The photo was taken by his wife Laura.

The winner of the children's category for October is little Isaac Mcananey, from Newton Aycliffe, who at just eight days' old is pictured giggling for his aunt Katrina Mcananey, 30, who took the photograph.

It's now up to you to decide which of our 12 monthly winners will walk away with the overall prize of a new digital SLR camera, just in time for Christmas.

To vote for your favourite, go to northernecho.co.uk/smilevote. The photo with the most Facebook 'Likes' by close of play, Monday, December 5, wins. Usual Newsquest terms and conditions apply.
