A MOTHER who was pushed into a cabinet by her son will have to undergo plastic surgery for a three-inch deep gash on her face.

Richard Thompson, 34, pushed his mother after she remonstrated with him as he lost his temper and shouted through the walls at noisy neighbours on Friday (November 4).

Appearing from custody in Newton Aycliffe today (November 7), the defendant told magistrates from the dock “I pushed her over” before pleading guilty to wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

Alan Davison, prosecuting, told the court the incident happened at the defendant’s home on Albion Avenue, Shildon, where he lives with his mother and step-father.

He said Thompson pushed the victim, causing her to fall into the cabinet which she caught with her face.

The victim was left with a cut under her eye which requires plastic surgery and she will have permanent scarring.

Mr Davison said “for the first time in his career” that photographs provided of the injury had been covered by post-it notes.

Ian Wilson, mitigating, said he would be requesting more recent images as those provided were of the injury before it was cleaned.

Thompson, who is on licence for burglary, was remanded in custody and will appear at Durham Crown Court for sentencing on December 2.
