SUNDERLAND’S Under-23s cruised to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Southampton.
Two goals from Josh Maja and one from George Honeyman did the damage at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground where the Saints lost for the first time this season.
Sunderland striker Maja made the most of a defensive error before rounding debutant goalkeeper Adam Parkes to give Sunderland the lead inside 120 seconds.
Maja made it two when he headed in Josh Robson’s ball back into the box and the third arrived on the hour mark when his cross broke kindly for Honeyman, who powered over the line from 12 yards.
