MILITARY personnel and their families have been getting healthy and hydrated to help raise funds and awareness for WaterAid.

An event organised by a team from RAF Leeming’s medical centre raised more than £500 for the charity – which aims to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

Personnel and their families were able to make a small donation in exchange for bottles of fruit infused water and fresh fruit, which was provided by various organisations.

Organiser Flight Lieutenant Jenny Ford said: “The feedback we received from the Think Pink Breast cancer cake sale last year was that people would like an event with a healthier perspective and theme. As it is August and the warmer weather is here, I focused on hydration and healthy eating.

“It was fun to organise and great to support such an excellent charity. They aim to reduce deaths caused by contaminated water and poor sanitation and their target is to supply clean water to all deprived countries by 2030.”
