RYEDALE Show is preparing for Royal guests for its 150th event next week.
The show, which will be held on Tuesday, July 26, will mark the milestone with the Duchess of Kent as guest of honour, who will be accompanied by her nephew, Sir William Worsley, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.
This year’s show, at Welburn Park, near Kirkbymoorside, will include a parade to celebrate farming since the first show held in 1855.
The parade will include representatives of the people who set up the Agricultural Society, local Pony Club members dressed as children from that period, a Shorthorn Cow and Leicester Sheep representing the breeds that were shown at the first show. It will also include vintage tractors leading onto the grand parade representing farming of today.
Christine Thompson, the show’s general secretary, said: “This year’s 150th show promises to be very special with many additional celebratory events taking place alongside the royal visit by HRH the Duchess of Kent.” Show presidents are Chris and Sheila Leckenby, of Pockley, who have been involved with show for more than 40 years.
Gates open to the public at 8.30am. Admission is £10 for adults, £5 for children, under fives free and concessions £8. For more information visit ryedaleshow.org.uk
