A MAN who was stopped by police after a trip to McDonald’s with his girlfriend has been banned from the road.
Damon Roberts, of Hullock Road, Newton Aycliffe, was flagged down at 1.45am by officers looking for a suspect involved with a burglary.
The 22-year-old was arrested for driving with no insurance and without a licence when he was pulled over in Spennymoor on May 30.
The defendant, who was recalled to prison, pleaded guilty today (Wednesday) to the two offences while appearing via video link from custody.
Calum Terry, mitigating, said Roberts accepted he should not have been driving and had paid a penalty.
Newton Aycliffe Magistrates gave Roberts a six-month conditional discharge. His licence was endorsed with six penalty points, resulting in a six-month disqualification, and he must pay a £20 victim surcharge.
