Eileen Brennan died yesterday after a bus left the road and collided with the Halifax bank on Northgate.
A brief statement released by Durham Police tonight said: "The police investigation is continuing and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
"Our thoughts are with her family and friends."
Earlier today the driver of the bus was released on bail.
The 52-year-old man, from Darlington, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the incident which left several others injured as well as claiming the life of Ms Brennan.

The driver has been bailed until mid-August pending further investigation.
One of the injured pedestrians who received minor injuries in the crash has now been discharged from Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Another pedestrian, a woman from Darlington, who was more seriously injured, was taken to James Cook Hospital and is still receiving treatment for her injuries.
Her condition is described as stable.
Workmen were at the scene of the tragedy until mid-morning repairing the pavement and boarding up a window of the Halifax bank on Northgate that the bus crashed into on Thursday.
But once the area was fully accessible to the public, a steady stream of floral tributes began being placed outside the bank.
Among the tributes were messages of support to the woman’s family from staff working at outlets near the Halifax building including Greggs and the Halifax itself.
Chief Inspector Graham Milne, said: "We would like to reiterate what was said yesterday, our sympathy and thoughts remain with the lady's family and friends and the wider community who witnessed this horrific incident.
"I would personally like to thank the businesses in the area who assisted the emergency services during the incident and the public who have come forward and spoken to us.
"All of this has helped us greatly piece together the circumstances of this collision."
A post mortem examination took place earlier today.
Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call police on 101.
