A MAYOR is urging people to pull on their trainers and take part in a famous run to support one of her chosen charities.

The Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Bishop Auckland Town Councillor Ann Golightly, will raise funds for Butterwick Hospice during her term in office.

A supporter and registered volunteer at the hospice, on Woodhouse Lane, for several years, she knows the importance of fundraising to maintain its work including day services, palliative home care, outreach hospices and help for people with progressive neurological illnesses.

She is urging people to take part in the Great North Run on Sunday, September 11, on behalf of the hospice which has a number of allocated places still available.

The deadline is fast approaching, call Gail Pearson on 01642-628930 or email gailpearson@butterwick.org.uk by Monday, July 4.

Cllr Golightly will also support initiatives that make Bishop Auckland a more ‘dementia friendly’ town.
