Deputy Chief Constable Steve Watson has been appointed Chief Constable of troubled SOuth Yorkshire Police
THE Deputy Chief Constable of Durham Police is set to take charge of the troubled South Yorkshire force.
Steve Watson only took over the role in Durham last June after serving with the Metropolitan Police for four years.
This morning the Sheffield Star newspaper quoted South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Dr Alan Billings, as saying that Mr Watson is the "preferred candidate" for the job.
The appointment is due to be confirmed by the police and crime panel later this month.
Before Mr Watson joined the Met, he was with Merseyside Police as a chief superintendent in charge of Liverpool. Before that he worked for the Lancashire force.
