DOZENS of Northern Echo readers have shared their smiles as part of a competition to celebrate Darlington Building Society’s 160th anniversary – and the first winners have been chosen.
The Winning Smile competition invites readers to submit a smiley picture to be in with the chance of winning monthly prizes of a £50 Marks and Spencer voucher or £25 iTunes vouchers as well as the opportunity to win an overall prize of a digital SLR camera.

The first month’s winners can now be revealed as Kathleen Gibson from Bishop Auckland and six-year-old Charlie Presch who scooped the junior prize.
Mrs Gibson, of Bishop Auckland, submitted a photo of her wide smile as she conquered her fear of heights to paraglide off a mountain in memory of her sister’s fiancee Graham Dunn who died of an aneurysm in 2014.
Medics from the Great North Air Ambulance Service tended to Mr Dunn, who was working as a refuse collector in the Barnard Castle area at the time and Mrs Gibson wanted to raise funds for them to acknowledge their efforts.
Charlie Presch was chosen as the junior winner for entering his lovely snap of himself, his one-year-old sister Eden and his father Michael.
Both winners will receive the monthly prize and the competition is now open to find June’s Winning Smile.
