A MAN has been arrested following a suspected stabbing in County Durham on Sunday.
Police have detained a 49-year-old suspect on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident in Shildon.
Officers arrested the local man at about 6.30pm last night and he is currently in custody at Bishop Auckland police station where he will be interviewed further.
A 44-year-old remains in a stable condition in hospital and is receiving treatment for several stab wounds following the attack in Oaklea, a cul-de-sac off Larch Avenue.
Yesterday his injuries were described as serious but not life threatening.
The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector, Victoria Fuller, said: “Enquiries are ongoing and I would like to thank the people of Shildon for their patience and the support they have given to the investigation since this incident happened.”
