A YOUNG netball player is shooting to the top as she hones her skills in a fast-paced sport.
Barnard Castle School student Ella Bowen has just undergone regional trials and is awaiting news to see if she progresses further in her favourite sport.
The A team goal attack for Barnard Castle School also plays goal defence for Oaksway, one of the best clubs in the region.
The 14-year-old, of Durham City, plays for South Durham and Cleveland U16s and is a member of Northumbria’s Future Squad.
“I think the trials went well and our team won its matches,” said Ella, who plays four times a week.
“I love netball; it is fast and keeps you fit. I have made some great friends and one day would love to play for England.”
Ella, a Year 9 pupil, also plays golf with a handicap of 23, which she hopes to lower to 18 this year, and is a member of Durham City Club.
“With the golf the aim is to try and secure a place at an American university to develop my game and give me a chance of becoming a professional,” she said.
PE teacher Lesley Burgess said: “Ella is a real talent with both her netball and golf offering her incredible opportunities for the future.”
