NEW signs have been put into three villages to try and get speeding motorists to slow down.

They were put up in Billy Row, Stanley Crook and Sunniside because of concerns about people driving too fast through the villages.

It is hoped they will remind drivers they are in residential areas where children may be playing and people walking.

Waiting restrictions are also planned for three junctions in Billy Row – at White Lea Road and both entrances to Stanley Way – to try and improve visibility for motorists and pedestrians.

Tow Law county councillor John Hart, who arranged for the new signs to be put in, said: “"Speeding motorists are huge matter of concern for local people - especially parents like myself.

"The nature of these roads makes installing physical traffic calming measures like speed bumps next to impossible but these signs are there to remind drivers they are entering villages were people live and children play - not Silverstone.

"I'll make sure everything that can be done to tackle this problem is done and will keep on working with the local communities and police to improve road safety in our communities."
