POLICE have been called to the address of two men in Redcar who were last week convicted of cruelty to a dog as feelings run high the community.

Cleveland Police confirm they sent a an officer to the address on the evening of Good Friday although, in the end, no offences were committed.

There have been many online comments threatening violence to the pair who were convicted last week for headbutting and stamping on a bulldog named Baby and then repeatedly throwing the dog down the stairs.

An RSPCA video seized from a telephone shows Andrew Frankish, 22, and another man, 18, who can not be named for legal reasons, throwing the animal down the stairs. The pair were convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal at Hartlepool Magistrates Court.

They pleaded guilty and were banned from keeping animals for life as well as a 21-month suspended sentence and a six month tagged curfew between 8pm and 6am.

The story and footage has caused outrage online. Two men did not ask for protection but other members of the public raised concerns.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: β€œAn officer attended an address in the Redcar area on Friday evening following concerns raised about heightened tension in the local area following the prosecutions of two local men. No offences had been committed, however, residents raised concerns about an increase in tension. Police are aware of the issues and will deal with any incidents appropriately.”
