DETECTIVES are appealing for details about an incident in which an axeman with blood on his face was seen chasing two men across a busy residential street.

North Yorkshire Police said the incident on Maison Dieu, in Richmond, one of the main routes into the town, happened at 1.20pm on Saturday (March 12).

They said the man who was carrying the axe was seen heading into a nearby house and the other two men made off towards Richmond town centre.

Two men, aged 28 and 35, both from Richmond, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Both men have been released on bail while police enquiries continue.

A police spokesman said: "We are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public's assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"In particular, we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw the man with the axe, to contact us."
