COMEDY fans showed they had a big heart when they dug deep to raise money for young cancer sufferer.
Almost £1,000 was raised during a bucket collection during a Big Mouth Comedy Club show in Middlesbrough on Saturday night (Feb 6) to help three-year-old Kian Musgrove receive specialist treatment in his fight against stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma.
The collection was the idea of comedian Matt Reed, one of 20 comics who took part in a charity boxing match last night (Sunday, February 7) at Blyth Sports Centre, hosted by TV big-hitter Rhod Gilbert.
Doctors discovered 27 tumours in Kian’s body in 2013 and despite intensive treatment the cancer has returned.
His family is trying to raise more than £500,000 for potentially life-saving treatment in either Germany or the USA – and they have managed to raise£275,000 so far.
Fans donated £942 when Mr Reed decided on an impromptu bucket collection at the end of the night with Big Mouth Comedy rounding up the total to £1,000, while his boxing efforts has already raised more than £2,000 of sponsorship in just 29 days.
He said: “I thought when we decided to do a quick collection at the end, we might get £100. So I couldn’t believe the generosity of the Big Mouth crowd as they kept putting notes into the bucket. I’m still amazed and very grateful at how much they’ve donated.”
Peter Vincent, of Big Mouth Comedy, said: “We’re always saying we have some of the best audiences you’ll find anywhere, and last night was just incredible. The crowd never fail to amaze me, they’re absolutely wonderful, and I can’t thank them enough.”
