FOOTBALL fans' heartfelt chants have inspired a T-shirt design to show support for the cancer-stricken Boro commentator Ali Brownlee.

T-shirts sporting the words "one of our own" have been produced, with all profits raised going to the BBC's Children in Need charity.

The idea came from Boro fans Dave Roberts and Chris Joseph, who were shocked by the news of Mr Brownlee's ongoing fight with cancer and moved by his bravery, and the deafening "one of our own" chanting of the Boro faithful in his support.

And it was these words that inspired the T-shirts, which have been backed by the football club and players past and present.

Mr Roberts, a friend of Mr Brownlee's and former co-commenter, said: "It’s a simple message to let Ali know we are all behind him. He has become the voice of the Boro and it's great to see the football club, players and Boro fans show their full support of Ali."

Former Boro midfielder Craig Hignett said: "It's a great idea, the fans can show their support for Ali and at the same time raise money for Children in Need. We are all behind Ali and hope he's back in the commentary box very soon."

The shirts can be purchased across Teesside, from both Middlesbrough Football Club shops and the club's online site, Psyche store in Cleveland Centre, The House in Yarm and via MSV Sport in Middlesbrough and online at - msvteamwear.com
