A WOMAN who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour this year is heading to Parliament to try and convince MPs to invest in research funding for the disease.

Anna Swabey, from Newton Aycliffe in County Durham, will be going to Parliament on Tuesday, November 17, to share her experiences as part of an inquiry into whether brain tumour research should get more Government funding.

The 24-year-old, who was diagnosed with a grade three brain tumour in February, was selected for the event after signing a petition and responding to the inquiry online.

She has been raising awareness about the issue through a blog - Inside My Head -  and has been fundraising for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign, generating more than £36,000 since March.

She said: “I found some really shocking statistics about brain tumour funding and something needs to be done. It’s not right that research into brain tumours only receive one per cent of national cancer research funding.

“I feel quite honoured to be going to Parliament. Hopefully I can speak on behalf of the patients I've spoken to since January and can represent some of their thoughts and opinions. And I hope some kind of funding can come from it.

“We’re not just statistics or numbers, we’re people losing our lives because there’s not enough money in research for brain tumours.”
