THE former Boro manager known as "Captain Marvel" is heading back to Teesside early next year.

Bryan Robson, who managed Middlesbrough through the 1990s, is appearing at the Dormans Club, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough on January 27, in An Evening With Bryan Robson.

The former Boro player and manager said: "It will be great to spend some time with the people from the town.

"We shared some wonderful times together and I still look out for their result every game.

"The fans will always be very special to me and what we achieved during that time will remain with me forever, truly fantastic days.

Robson, who also captained Manchester United and England and was born in Chester-le-Street, managed Boro for seven years, guiding them to two promotions to the Premier League, and to the first three cup finals of the club's history.

Affectionately known as 'Captain Marvel', he joined the Boro in 1994 as player-manager. He retired from playing in 1997 and left the club in 2001.

During his time at the club he became assistant to Terry Venables during his reign as England Manager, and was instrumental in bring some of the club's best-ever known players to Teesside including Juninho, Ravanelli, Merson, Gazza, Emerson and many more.

The evening will be hosted by BBC Tees radio presenter Paul 'Goffy' Gough, whose company Goffy Media has funded a series of sell-out events at the Dormans Club.

This has included TV and film star Ricky Tomlinson and comedian Stan Boardman.
