CHILDREN at a Darlington primary school became published authors this week after joining up with a global literacy platform on a visit to their local rugby club.

As part of a trip to the Northern Echo Arena, home of Darlington Mowden Park RFC, the year six children from Reid Street School played rugby, posed with the players – and let their imaginations run wild as they produced creative stories on a literacy through sport day.

Pobble aims to create a more literate world, by giving teachers a means to inspire young writers and providing children with a global audience for their work.

Children and teachers at Reid Street marked the launch of Pobble in their school with their own Pobble Day at the rugby club.

Greg Findlayson, from Pobble’s literacy team, created a fun packed day of creative writing in a memorable setting, before teachers pressed the button to share the children’s work with the world.

Year 6 teachers Nicola Bunn said: "Greg developed an excellent rapport with the children and quickly identified those children with issues.

"Children were engrossed in the session and all thoroughly enjoyed the day.”

Anne Rose, community manager at Mowden Park RFC, added: “The literacy days are a fantastic way of bringing the children into an inspiring venue where they can capture their imaginations and create pieces of work that can be shared with the world.

"Mowden Park is pleased to be working in partnership with Pobble to engage with children from schools across the North East.”
