A MOTORIST has denied charges relating to the death of a pedestrian in a collision almost a year since her death.

Daniel Mark Rowland was driving a Volkswagen Bora which collided with Vikki Tinkler in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, on Friday October 24, last year.

Thirty-year-old Miss Taylor, from Newton Aycliffe, who was crossing Stephenson Way at the time of the collision, died from the injuries she suffered in the accident.

She was said to have emerged onto Stephenson Way from a bus shelter and was in collision with the front nearside of the Bora, which was travelling in a south-easterly direction.

Mr Rowland was subsequently charged with causing death by dangerous driving, the alternative of causing death by driving without due care and attention, and causing death by driving while uninsured.

Appearing at a plea hearing at Durham Crown Court, on Friday, he denied all three charges.

Martin Towers, for the accused, said a defence expert’s report is expected to be completed and received within the next 28 days.

A joint view of both that report and the findings of a prosecution accident expert will then be considered and submitted within a further fortnight.

The case has already been listed for a trial at the court early in the New Year, with a three-day time estimate.

Judge Christopher Prince agreed to adjourn the case to allow completion of the various reports ahead of the trial.

The 22-year-old defendant, of Dalton Way, Newton Aycliffe, was bailed to return to court for the trial, starting on January 13.
