ROTARIANS raised about £1,000 for an Alzheimer’s charity by doing a memory walk.

About 50 people took part in the three mile walk in Bishop Auckland, in County Durham, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Keith Black, from the Bishop Auckland Rotary, said: “Alzheimer’s is quite close to our hearts because we have had one or two members’ partners be diagnosed with it. Some of us are walking for them and some of us are walking for relatives.

“I think it’s something that everyone knows someone who is affected by it.”

The sponsored walkers did a three-mile loop along the railway path and back along the river on the Weardale Way.

The Bishop Auckland Rotary has previously raised money for the charity through a golf day.

The Inner Wheel, the women’s Rotary, also had a race night raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Bishop Auckland Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at 6.15pm or 6.45pm at the Park Head Hotel, New Coundon, Bishop Auckland.
