POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an accident which left an elderly lady with serious injuries after she was struck by a car at a busy shopping centre.
The accident happened outside the Subway sandwich shop at the Arnison Centre, on the outskirts of Durham, at 5.10pm on Friday, October 2.
A Durham Police spokesman said: "A Toyota Aygo car collided with an 83-year-old woman on the pedestrian crossing by the store.
"The victim, who is from Stanley, was left with a number of fractures and a deep cut to her right arm and was detained in the University Hospital North Durham.
"The car driver, a 39-year-old woman from Chester-le-Street, was uninjured."
