FACE painting and drums will keep youngsters busy during a family learning day.

Workshops and taster sessions will run all day at Hall Garth School, in Middlesbrough, with a free lunch.

Drop-in sessions include jewellery-making, driving theory, drumming and a DJ workshop.

Some sessions need to be booked in advance, including "grow your own poems", cake baking, splodge and splatter art, steel band and trampoline to fitness.

Odelle Hancock, Middlesbrough Learning Sop manager, said: "Family Learning Day is a great chance for families to have fun together and learn a new skill, with activities children and adults can enjoy."

Family Learning Day will be on Saturday, May 12, and a free bus service will operate every 30 minutes, starting at 9.30am.

Route one will travel around Hemlington, picking up at Abingdon Sure Start and the following primary schools: Newport, Ayresome, Linthorpe and Beechwood.

Route two around the town will pick up from Sunnyside, Viewley Hill, Hemlington Hall, St Clare's and Kader primary schools.
