A service in a Teesdale church will conclude a series of study groups that have taken place over the past two months for the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery.

Hamsterley Churches Together is holding the service on Sunday, at 10.45am, in Hamsterley Methodist Chapel. People will be invited to sign letters to Prime Minister Tony Blair, calling for action to stop the trafficking of children and adults into Britain.

At about 11.45am, balloons will be released as a symbol of the need for today's slaves to be freed.
