WORKERS from a house-building company will take on a local football team during a community fun day this weekend.

Staff from Gladedale will play a team from South Moor Football Club in a match on Sunday.

The house-builder - formerly known as Bett Homes - recently completed 95 homes in the Stanley area, some of them overlooking the club's pitches.

During the project, the company donated a canteen for the players.

A whole range of activities has been co-ordinated for the day and, following the match, visitors can take a penalty shoot-out featuring Newcastle United goalkeeper, Pavel Srnicek.

Two Russell Foster Youth League games will take place, and children will be able to play on a bouncy castle, have their faces painted or visit a fire engine.

Raffle tickets will be on sale, with prizes including £100 MetroCentre vouchers and a football signed by Sunderland AFC players.

Sales director Gillian Bell said: "The community fun day is an excellent opportunity for the whole community to get together, and we are delighted to have been invited to participate in the football match.

"We are committed to the needs of local residents for quality housing, and that is precisely what is on offer at both our developments in Stanley."

The event, at the South Moor Football Club, takes place on Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.

The Gladedale and South Moor Football Club match starts at 2pm.
