A FAMILY fun day is being planned as part of a campaign to promote community pride.

The Pride in Easington Family Fun Day will celebrate the successes of the campaign so far, and showcase the organisations and services working to improve life in the district.

The event will include music, sports, art workshops, nature walks, a skate park, mobile cinema and and other activities.

The fun day, organised by Easington District Council, will take place at Dalton Park, Murton, from 9am to 5pm on Saturday, June 16.

Pride in Easington aims to improve the quality of life in the district by making communities cleaner, greener and safer.

Michelle Morton, Pride in Easington officer, said: "This is our first Pride in Easington Day, and we are hoping residents will turn out in force to make it a big success.

"Involving the community is an important part of our campaign and dozens of people have already done their bit to support us.

"This event is our way of thanking residents for their efforts so far, and encouraging them to continue helping us to keep their communities clean and safe."

The day will feature activities ranging from pebble painting, with the council's coast and countryside rangers, to basketball sessions organised by the sports development unit.

County Durham Primary Care Trust will lead a bike ride around the park.
