SIX more prisoners have been charged by police in connection with riots at a prison that caused up to £1m worth of damage.
The men, all aged 18 to 21, face charges of prison mutiny in relation to trouble at Deerbolt Young Offenders' Institution, at Startforth, near Barnard Castle, on February 25.
On Wednesday, seven prisoners appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court facing similar charges, one having been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
No please were entered, and they will appear at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday.
It was revealed in court on Wednesday that much of D wing was damaged in the riots, and the repair bill could cost £750,000 to £1m.
A police spokesman said: "Six more prisoners, all male, were brought to Bishop Auckland police office during the course of this week, interviewed by detectives and charged.
"The lengthy police investigation continues and further arrests are planned."
The six inmates who were charged this week will appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, May 16.
