TWO people have been arrested after an alleged hit-and-run in which a police officer was injured.

The on-duty officer was injured in the incident involving a black Audi A4 on Acklam Road, Middlesbrough, near to the cemetery near Ayresome Green Lane, at about 12 noon yesterday (Monday, September 14). The road was sealed off afterwards and the officer was treated for knee and facial injuries.

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and on suspicion of assault. A 28-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of assault. Both remain in custody.
