A REGULAR Sunday night comedy show is switching to a Monday - for May Day only.

Durham's Gala Theatre is the setting for The Comedy Store, a free afternoon of "laid-back music and fun".

Singer and acoustic guitarist Terry Gorman, whose style has been labelled as "Squeeze meets Crowded House", provides the entertainment for visitors to the theatre's bar and cafe area, from 12.30 to 3.30pm.

He will sing a selection of his own songs, plus some covers of popular numbers.

The four-strong Comedy Store line-up, from 7.30pm, features John Bishop, named Best Newcomer by BBC Radio Merseyside, Alex Boardman, a quick-witted improvisational funnyman, Geordie stand-up Dave Johns, winner of the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe Award in 1998, and Tim Clark, described as among the "brightest newcomers" on the comedy circuit.

Comedy Store tickets are £9, or £6 for concessions, for Friends of the Gala, and for students. For more details, call the Gala box office on 0191-332-4041.
