VISITORS to a popular brass band contest held near waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales since 1881 are being urged to allow extra time to travel to the event.
The Hawdraw Force Brass Band Festival, on Sunday, September 13, from 10am, is set to see Backworth Colliery, Leyburn and Ferryhill Town among a dozen bands performing 20-minute sets ahead of a massed band performance.
Bands, ranging from village groups to those contesting the Championship Section, are judged both on the standard of their music and programme selection.
The event, which costs £9 to enter and is held in the grounds of the Green Dragon Inn, in Hawdraw, will see a one-way system from Hawes, as the lane accessing the village is narrow.
Show organisers Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Bands Association said visitors should include extra time to travel to the event to cope with the narrow roads, farm machinery and caravans in the Northern Dales.
