SEVERAL thousand pounds in cash as well as gold jewellery have been stolen from safe during a house burglary.
The daylight burglary happened at an isolated property in the village of Burnhope, near Stanley on Thursday (August 27).
Police think the intruders may have got into the house, which is in the St John’s Church area of the village, from a public footpath at around noon.
During the burglary, cash was taken from the safe along with several unusual items of valuable 24-carat Indian gold jewellery, described as being of great sentimental value to the victims.
Detectives are now appealing for information and are asking any witnesses who saw anything unusual or suspicious in the area to call Durham Police on 101 and ask for investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Anna Phillips.
Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
