A MAN spotted trying to inflate his car tyres with a vacuum cleaner has been charged with drink driving.

Police in Scarborough were called to a petrol forecourt after onlookers became concerned about the behaviour of a young motorist.

When the man failed to blow up his tyres with the vacuum, he then tried to use the water line, police said.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police added: "We were called at about 7am on 9 August 2015 with reports of a suspected drink driver at a filling station.

"Officers attended and came across the vehicle stopped on Seamer Road, Scarborough.

"The driver, a 21-year-old man, gave a reading of 68 and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He was subsequently charged with drink driving and driving without insurance."

In a separate incident, North Yorkshire Police said they arrested a motorist in Harrogate today who gave a roadside breath sample that was more than four times the legal limit.
