WORTHINGTON CIU Summer League

 

                Meadowfield and Hunwick A continue to share the top spot in the First Division after both recorded odd point victories. Fishburn A were the visitors to Meadowfield, where they won the first and last frames through Charlie Hirst and George Whitelock. The home points came from Stephen Hughes, Michael McNay and Steven Jackson.

                Hunwick A were taken to the decider at Newton Aycliffe. The visitors went two ahead with wins from Martin Perry with a 59 break and Dale Wilson. The home team replied with a win from Alan Keeney with a 51 break to beat Steven Webb, who put in a 42 break. Michael Hewitt equalised but Neville Blenkinsopp took the Hunwick team to victory when he beat Richie Young in the decider.

                Sherburn Village proved to be the visiting Wingate A’s bogey team when they won by the odd point after only dropping one point at Wingate earlier in the season. David Wallace and Stephen Allen won the first and last frames for Wingate, whilst the Villagers clinched victory with wins from John Bower, Albert Bower and Alan Greener.

                Billy Ward was the only Durham City winner at Spennymoor, who produced their best victory of the season with wins from Paul Biddle, Paul davison, Dennis Dodd and Alan Rouell.

                Division One results– Spennymoor 4 Durham City 1; Sherburn Village 3 Wingate A 2; Newton Aycliffe 2 Hunwick A 3; Meadowfield 3 Fishburn A 2.

                Division One points: Meadowfield and Hunwick A 28 each; Newton Aycliffe and Fishburn 25 each; Wingate A 22; Durham City 18; Spennymoor and Sherburn Village 17 each.

                Ferryhill A retained the top spot in the Second Division when they won in the decider at Stanley Central. Chris Wilkinson put the visitors ahead but Jason Johnson and Sean McCallum turned the match in favour of the home team. Trevor Bowden equalised with a win on the black over Alan Hogarth, who had put in a 33 break. Adrian Jones clinched the Ferryhill A victory with a deciding black win over Rob Hogarth.

                Michael Aldworth and Graeme Witton took the first two frames from Shildon Elm Road against the visiting Sacriston. The visitors equalised with wins from Dale Evans and Jeff Evans. In the decider, played between the two captains, Sacriston’s Alan Richardson beat Lee Gardiner.

                Jimmy Eavns and Dean Jones won the first and last frames for Thornley against the visiting Crowtrees. The visitors returned home victorious following wins from Steve Allen, Sonny Hann and Keith McLaughlan.

                Division Two results – Shildon Elm Road 2 Sacriston 3; Thornley 2 Crowtrees 3; Stanley Central 2 Ferryhill A 3. Postponed: Hunwick B v Langley Park.

                Second Division points: Ferryhill A 27; Langley Park 25; Crowtrees and Shildon Elm Road 24 each; Stanley Central 20; Thornley and Hunwick B 19 each; Sacriston 17.

                Crook Belle Vue, the Third Division leaders, went ahead at Wingate B with a win from Kieran Laing. However from that point the home side took over and won the remaining frames through Andrew Hart, Steven Raine, John Walton and Joe Hennessey.

                Ferryhill B beat the visiting newcomers from Stanhope by the odd point when they had wins from Stuart Roddam, Terry Roddam and Kevin Milburn, whilst Roy Devlin and Colin Perry replied for the Dalesmen.

                New Durham joined Stanhope in equal second place after they beat the visiting Trimdon Colliery by the odd point. The home team had wins from Gordon Bowes, Matthew Christopher and Robert Charlton with Wayne Oliver and Wayne Scott replying

                Bearpark produced their best win of the season when they whitewashed the visiting Cockton Hill with wins from Glen Morton, Shaun Easter, Gerald McLoughlin, Steven Charters and Tony Wilson.

                Division Three results – Wingate B 4 Crook Belle Vue 1; Ferryhill B 3 Stanhope 2; New Durham 3 Trimdon Colliery 2; Bearpark 5 Cockton Hill 0.

                Third Division points: Crook Belle Vue 28; New Durham and Stanhope 26 each; Trimdon Colliery 25; Ferryhill B 21; Bearpark 21; Wingate B 18; Cockton Hill 15.

 

Crook Snooker League

 

                Howden Australian won the deciding doubles at the King’s B but it was not enough to lift them from the foot of the Fist Division. The King’s had wins from Tom Stobart, James Teasdale and Anthony Wood, with Michael Burke, John Mason and Michael Lee equalising. Burke and Mason won the decider. 

                First Division: Crown A 3 King’s A 4; King’s B 3 Australian 4; Travellers Rst B 5 Mill House B 2. Mill House A had a bye.

                First Division points: Mill House A 24; Travellers Rest B 15; Crown A 19; King's Head B 18; Mill House B, King's Head A and Howden Australian 15 each.

                In the Second Division Crook Queen’s were taken to the deciding doubles by the visiting New Market. John Sneath, John Collinson and Tony Hepper won singles for the Queen’s with Ryan Coates, Shaun Umpelby and Alan Ogilvie equalising. Hepper and Collinson won the decider.

                Second Division: Surtees 2 Travellers Rest A 5; White Swan 7 Crown B 0; Crook Queen’s 4 New Market 3. Willington Queen’s had a bye.

                Quarter finals to be played on Tuesday, 4 August: Shildon Elm Road v Wingate A; Newton Aycliffe v Durham City; Stanley Central v Hunwick A; Spennymoor v Ferryhill A.

 

C.I.U. Summer Team Plate

 

                The semi finals, to be played on Tuesday, 4 August are Thornley v Ferryhill A at Crowtrees (referee: Peter Laverick) and Cockton Hill v Meadowfield at Sherburn Village (Referee: Alan Greener). The final will be played on Tuesday, 25 August at a venue to be arranged.
